184 Squadron Guestbook

Good day all,

You have done a great job on the site, thank you.

I live in Luc sur Mer, near Caen and Plumetot (B10) and i am one of the authors of the book "Cresserons d'hier à aujourd'hui" and we wrote about the ALG B10.

I research photos of B10 during the passage of 184 Squadron. Any help appreciated.

Regards, Daniel.

This afternoon i was talking to my father's cousin, the sister of John James Rowland (known as Jim) and she mentioned that he was in 184 Squadron. She gave the following information as mini bio of him -

Educated at St Joseph's School, Beulah Hill, London
On leaving school went to work with Surrey County Council in Kingston

Served with 184 Squadron, after training for about 18 months in Bulawayo in Rhodesia.
His body was recovered by a French farmer who then prepared it for burial. The Germans said that there were to be no flowers at the funeral, so the farmer and his family put some in the coffin. He is only English casualty in the cemetery in Quieteville.

I do have a picture of him in Bulawayo, but i have no scanner. I will ask someone else to scan it and let you have a copy to help complete you excellent website.

Thanks for all your hard work.

My uncle Ronald James Currie was with the 184 and died on Aug 18, 1944. There is a plaque in his name near the place where his plane was shot down. Does any one have any more information about him? I know that he was married to Margaret and they had a son named "Jimmy". I would like to contact Jimmy. If you have any leads, please contact me.

Admin reply: Will keep in contact on any info I come across

Good day,

I am the great nephew of Flt/Lt Henry Mathias Laflamme.

I was able to find his squadron using a photo of the Typhoon memorial wall my grandmother (his sister) took a few years ago while visiting Normandy.

This is a great resource. I Just wanted to say hello.

Admin reply: Thanks for getting in touch

Hi all.

Finally, I have tracked down my uncle Norman - Flt Lt Norman Frederick Snelson, featured here on these pages. Of course, I did know him in real life until he died suddenly at the age of 62 from a heart attack. He was only two years into his retirement from the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, where he was Treasurer.

His flight logs are now in the IWM. He flew a variety of aircraft including Spitfires but mainly Typhoons - not his favourite aircraft due to unreliability of the engine unit. He was taken prisoner of war twice after being shot down on one occasion and bailing out with a failed engine on another. He escaped on both occasions and finally went on to be a trainer in the USA for the USAF.

There are people on here looking for those that flew Typhoons. I cannot say whether my uncle knew your relatives but I guess being in the same squadron, its a reasonable bet.

Best regards to you all.
Dave Snelson

Admin reply: Good to have you on board David

Gday all, my Father Sgt. Marc La Deli flew in 184!

You have done a great job on the site, thank you. May I please add my Dad's name to the survivor list and his photo?

He is also looking for Flt/Lt Kilpatrick W RCAF or his family to thank him/them for help received during war.

I tried emailing Dave but his email bounces.

Any help appreciated.

Regards, Grant.

Admin reply: Finally sorted the error thanks for all the great info

My fathers name was Reginald Robert Burton,he was known as "George".He passed away in 1990 leaving me with many unanswered questions. He served with 184 during 1944/45 as a member of the groundcrew.
In the time that i have known about and contributed to this website many of those questions have now been answered and i have to thank Dave for this.
I would like to know if any of the surviving members or relatives of crew of 184 have any recollections/photos of my dad that they could share with me.(his typhoon was number BR-K as seen in some of the photos)
I can be contacted via this message board or an email to Dave will hopefully get through to me.

Howard.
