184 Squadron Guestbook

Comments:
I'am a WW 2 aviation memorabila collector. Back in 2005 I bought an outstanding "Battle of Britain" era dated Irvin Jacket, which belonged to Angus Ruffhead. Apperently the jacket was kept all these years by his brother Claude Ruffhead. While resarching on Flt Lt. Angus Ruffhead I saw, that his cousin made an entry in the 184 Squadron Guestbook. I would be delighted, if I could put me in touch with her. Off course I would be very interested in obtaining any pictures of mister Angus Ruffhead, or the plane he flew. For any help I thank you very much in advance!

With all my very best wishes from Switzerland,

Yours sincerely

Reto Renfer

Thank you for all your research and efforts to produce and maintain this valuable history of 184 Squadron.
Sadly, my father, Flight Lieutenant Ken Creamer passed away peacefully on March 11th 2013. He was 90.
He joined 184 SQN at the beginning of 1945 and was based at Volkel.
On 21st Feb, on his first mission, after hitting his target, his Typhoon developed a serious glycol leak resulting in engine failure at about 6,000ft.
He tried to bail out, but couldn't get the canopy to open. So he was forced to make an emergency landing narrowly missing some electricity pylons.
He was captured and spent the remainder of the war as a POW.

May be of interest that the last combat operation flown by 184 Squadron against the Germans, was 70 years ago 04 May 1945 where the recce resulted in the sinking of U Boat U2521 with 60lb rockets. The U Boat was commanded by Kommandant Joachim Menther. The action took place in the Flensburg Ffiord 54.49 deg N 09.50 deg E.
In addition, another U Boat was at least damaged on the same recce.

hi Dave - I am starting some similar research on 181 squadron and was blown away by the website - you've done an amazing job! So much great information. Re: the ORBs - did you order these online or copy them at Kew?

All the best,

Peter

Hi there,

I am the granddaughter of Warrant Officer William Green, and I am so pleased I found this site. My aunt kept the pictures and log books so I haven't been able to see them until a few weeks ago. I almost cried when I found the link to his log books. To see a piece of history like that is amazing and when it is from your own flesh and blood. Words cannot describe how proud I was to be his granddaughter. So thank-you. Your site has brought me closer to him.
One quick question though, is there any chance you could put me in touch with any members of the squadron? I would love to ask them questions about my grandfather.
Thank you.

Just discovered that my father W/O JRIsherwood served with the squadron flying typhoons during 1944/45. Never talked about his wartime experience and amazed to see that there are films of ground attacks by him in 1945. Have his log book etc and some photos of the squadron if they are of interest will attempt to upload. Unfortunately he died in 1987 and only now have I had access to these.

Am looking forward to sharing the website with his grandchildren

Admin reply: look forward to seeing any new photos you can forward onto us and share
